The top of the slope of the little field

Courtney Henning

The top of the slope of the little field is the English translation for Penrhiwceiber, within the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taff, South Wales, where a post-industrial community remains a strong and positive place, where people pull together to help each other. Despite that, these celebratory images also hint at an apprehension of the demise of small villages such as these as opportunity dwindles.

Multiple community spaces form the core of this project. My work advocates for these places, spotlighting the impact of the people which sustain them, who build community and create links between neighbours capable of withstanding contemporary pressures.
